A Day In The Life Of A 8-Year-Old Coffee Roaster

Specialty Coffee

Most people think coffee starts with the first sip. My day starts much earlier, with the smell of fresh beans and the sound of my parents already talking about coffee in the kitchen.

I am Aditya, and many people know me as India’s youngest coffee roaster. I am still only eight, but coffee has already become a very important part of how I learn, observe, and spend time with my family. I do not drink it yet, but I love everything around it. I love the aroma, the roasting process, the brewing tools, the small changes in bean color, and the way every day teaches me something new.

This is what a full day in my Coffee world looks like.

My Morning Begins With Aroma And Questions

The first thing I notice every morning is the smell. Before I even reach the kitchen, the aroma is already in the air. It feels warm, calm, and familiar. That smell instantly makes me curious.

Every morning starts with questions in my mind:

  • what beans are we working with today
  • what roast level will suit them best
  • will the aroma feel fruity or chocolatey
  • are we brewing with V60 or AeroPress

This curiosity is one of the biggest reasons it became such a big part of my life. Every day feels like a fresh lesson.

Morning Learnings

A good morning coffee routine teaches:

  • sensory awareness
  • process memory
  • roast recall
  • aroma identification
  • workflow discipline

These small observations build stronger coffee understanding over time.

The Roasting Session Is The Heart Of My Day

The roasting table is my favorite place at home. This is where simple green beans slowly become something full of aroma, color, and flavor.

I start by checking the beans carefully. Green beans may look plain, but I know every stage ahead will change their story.

The roasting flow usually follows:

  • green stage
  • yellowing stage
  • light brown patches
  • first crack
  • roast development
  • cooling

I love watching the yellowing stage because it feels like the first visible sign of transformation. Then the aroma slowly changes from grassy to warm and sweet.

When the first crack happens, it always feels exciting. That small sound tells me the beans are entering a very important flavor stage.

This is where roasting becomes more than a process. It becomes a real-time lesson in heat, moisture, aroma, and timing.

Small Coffee Tasks Teach Big Lessons

A coffee day is never only about roasting. Many small tasks happen around it, and these tasks teach just as much.

My regular coffee tasks include:

  • weighing green beans
  • checking roast notes
  • setting up filters
  • arranging cups
  • cleaning brewers
  • comparing roast colors
  • labeling batches

These steps may sound small, but they improve:

  • discipline
  • consistency
  • workflow
  • cleanliness
  • repeatability

This is one of the biggest things coffee taught me. Tiny details shape the final result.

Brewing Time Feels Like A Calm Science Class

After roasting, brewing is one of the most peaceful parts of my day.

I love watching how the same roasted beans behave differently in different brewers.

V60

  • cleaner cup
  • brighter notes
  • clearer acidity

AeroPress

  • fuller body
  • round sweetness
  • lower bitterness

French Press

  • heavier texture
  • richer mouthfeel
  • deeper body

This is where I learn extraction in the simplest way. The same beans can taste different depending on grind size, water flow, and filter style.

That is why brewing always feels like a calm science class happening in the kitchen.

Brewing

Key brewing signals I observe:

  • bloom height
  • drawdown time
  • flow consistency
  • aroma intensity
  • final clarity

These simple markers help me understand cup quality better.

Aroma Training Is A Big Part Of My Day

One of the biggest ways I learn coffee is through smell.

Aroma tells me so much:

  • grassy = early roast
  • bread-like = yellowing
  • caramel = medium development
  • cocoa = balanced roast
  • smoky = darker roast

Sometimes I even close my eyes and try to guess the roast stage by aroma alone.

This habit became even stronger after learning with Mandappa sir, where we played a similar smell guessing game during roasting.

For someone my age, aroma is one of the easiest and most powerful teachers.

My Parents Make Every Coffee Day Safe And Special

The best part of my coffee life is that I learn everything with my parents.

They help me:

  • stay safe near hot equipment
  • understand complex ideas simply
  • explain flavor changes
  • guide roast decisions
  • answer my endless questions

Safety is always important because roasting and brewing involve heat.

Our simple safety framework includes:

  • safe distance from roaster opening
  • no touching kettle directly
  • careful cooling tray handling
  • guided sample checking

This family support is what makes coffee feel warm, educational, and full of trust.

Some Days Go Beyond Home Learning

Not every coffee day stays inside the house.

Some days include:

  • coffee farm visits
  • café learning
  • roast lab tours
  • expert sessions
  • podcast recording
  • unboxing brewers
  • filming coffee videos

My Bangalore journey, Coffee Board of India learning, Hunkal Estate visit, Harley Estate, and café sessions with coffee champions all became part of how my normal coffee days improved later.

Each outside experience adds something new to my daily home routine.

Coffee Has Made Me More Patient

If I think about the biggest personal lesson coffee gave me, it is patience.

Roasting needs patience.
Brewing needs patience.
Flavor understanding needs patience too.

Rushing any stage can hide the best result.

This lesson now shows up in everything:

  • waiting for first crack
  • slower V60 pours
  • comparing roast shades
  • allowing coffee to rest
  • observing aroma changes

For a seven-year-old, this has been one of the most valuable life lessons coffee gave me.

My Evening Review Keeps The Learning Growing

At the end of the day, I always like looking back at what I learned.

Sometimes it is:

  • a better roast profile
  • improved medium roast timing
  • clearer V60 extraction
  • better aroma recall
  • stronger roast note comparisons

This reflection step helps turn daily coffee work into long-term learning.

Daily Reflection Framework

I usually think about:

  • what worked well
  • what changed the aroma
  • where roast timing improved
  • which brewer showed the best flavor
  • what to try tomorrow

This simple review system makes every coffee day useful.

The Routine That Builds A Young Coffee Mind

A day in my life may look simple from outside, but every coffee moment adds a new layer of understanding.

The morning smell builds curiosity.
The roasting table teaches transformation.
Brewing teaches extraction.
Aroma teaches observation.
My parents teach safety and patience.

That is why every coffee day feels meaningful.

And if you enjoy learning through real stories, simple observations, and warm family-led curiosity, keep exploring the journey with Brew With Aditya, where every day adds another chapter to the life of India’s youngest coffee roaster.
