Hello everyone!
I am Aditya. I am so, so happy that you are here to read my very first blog.
Of course, I am a kid, and my feet might not always touch the ground when I sit on my dad’s chair. But I have a huge dream. Some of my friends want to be astronauts and fly to the moon. Some want to be Batman. But I want to be a coffee master.
I know you must be thinking: “Hey Aditya, you are just a kid! You do not drink coffee yet!” That’s fine. My mom and dad often ask me to wait until I am bigger to drink my favourite coffee. Yes, it makes me a little sad. But I am totally in love with everything else about coffee. It is quite fun to watch the rattling of the beans like tiny toys. I love the way the air smells like toasted chocolates. I feel happy when my mom, dad, and other people smile while drinking the coffee I’ve made.
I would love to share how my love for coffee happened.
It All Started with That Gadget
Ummmm….when did I start making coffee?
It started a long, long time ago when I was just a small baby. Mom says that I was then one and a half. She often recollects how I was attracted by that small coffee machine in our room, especially when it used to make a whirr-clack-whirrr sound. I wanted to see what was happening there! I tried to stand way up on my tippy-toes to reach as high as I could to peek inside.
For me, there was magic happening inside that machine. The little green beans were jumping around, and as they got hotter, they started to change colour. It was quite amazing to see them turning green to yellow, then to a beautiful, shiny brown.
I didn’t want to play with trucks. I just wanted to watch those beans jumping and dancing.
It made me ask questions—
Why do they change colour? Why do they smell like cookies sometimes and like flowers other times? How do they get so crunchy? —
I started finding the answers as I learned how to make coffee. Every time I made coffee, I found something new.
My Best Friends: Mom, Dad, and the LINK
My parents are the best in the world. They love me a lot. They saw that I didn’t just want to watch; I wanted to learn. They did not stop me just because I was little. Instead, they said, “Let’s do this together, Aditya!”
Safety is the most important thing. Roasters are very hot. To help me learn coffee brewing and take care of my safety, my parents found something really cool called the LINK Sample Roaster.
It just looks like a high-tech gadget from my favourite Star Wars. This coffee roaster is small enough to carry around. Dad told me that it is made for people who are just starting, like me. I don’t need to be a super genius scientist to use it.
It helps me learn how to roast small batches of coffee perfectly every single time.
How I Became Good at Roasting Coffee Beans
When I get ready to roast, it feels like I am going on a mission. Here is how I do it with my parents:
- The App Magic: We use a special app on a phone. I get to pick the kind of coffee we are using. Is it from Ethiopia? Is it from Brazil? Every bean has a different home!
- The Density Tube: This is a fancy tool that tells us how “heavy” the beans are. I feel like a real lab assistant when we use this.
- Watching in Real-Time: We use something called LINK Studio. It’s like a TV screen for the roast! I can watch the temperature go up and see exactly what is happening to my beans while they are inside the machine.
- The Smooth Start: My roaster is very smart. It starts at room temperature, which means the beans don’t get a “heat shock.” They warm up slowly and evenly. This makes the coffee taste way better later on.
- The Fan: Did you know that air matters too? The LINK has a fan that adjusts itself depending on where you are. Even if we were on top of a giant mountain or at the beach, the fan knows exactly how hard to blow so the beans stay happy.
Travelling with My Coffee
I can carry my travel case wherever I go. My LINK roaster has its own travel case. It is different from a regular bag. It is a strong bag and protects things from water. That sounds like something a superhero would have, right?
I told my dad that when I grow up, I would like to take my LINK roaster to a real coffee farm. I want to meet the farmers who grow the cherries, see the trees, and roast the beans right there under the sun.
Why I Love This So Much
For me, coffee is about happiness. When my parents wake up and want to have a good day, they make coffee. Every day, I see how people at home and in the café smile and talk while having a warm mug in their hands. Everyone feels calm and good when there is an aroma of roasting beans spread in the house.
I enjoy making coffee. I also listen to coffee podcasts with my dad. I really feel happy when I see people all over the world are doing the same thing I am.
My Big Dream
I am only seven now, but I am learning every day. Every time I hear the “first crack” of a bean (that’s the sound the bean makes when it’s getting ready!), I get a little bit smarter.
My parents always taught me that you are never too young to learn what you love. If you love something—whether it is painting, dinosaurs, or coffee—you should learn about it. Your parents can help you choose what you really love. You can learn anything.
I am lucky to meet coffee experts like Bhave Shory in Jaipur at Curious Life Coffee Roasters. He showed me how roasting can change how coffee tastes. He talked slowly and nicely so I could understand, and he let me watch him work. I felt like a real coffee learner that day. I also learnt how to make a cappuccino from Soudh Ibrahim. He is very good at coffee and has won many prizes. He taught me how to use the tools properly and always answered my questions. Learning with him made me feel brave and happy.
I also learn from James Hoffmann. I love to watch his videos again and again until I get the things right. It is easy to understand the way he explains, as if he is talking just to me. One day, I hope I can meet him and learn from him for real.
I have even started my podcast in which I invite the brewing masters to talk to me. I want to know about the soil where the coffee grows, the rain that feeds the plants, and the magic of the roast. I want to be the best roaster in the world.
My parents help me a lot. They give me coffee books with pictures and take me to the coffee competitions and exhibitions across the nation. They listen to my stories. They never get tired. They just walk with me. They are very important to me and my coffee dreams.
Join Me on My Journey!
This blog section is my small place to talk about my big coffee dreams. I want to tell stories, explore new things, and have fun along the way.
This is what I can share with you…
- Things about the different beans I try.
- Pictures of my roasting sessions.
- Fun things I learn from my favourite podcasts.
- And maybe even some videos of the beans dancing in the LINK!
You are my new friend. That’s why I hope you will come back and read my blog often. I will be happy to share my brewing journey with you.
Before I get back to my LINK, I want to ask:
What is something you loved doing since you were very, very little –like my age? Ask your mom or dad to help you tell me!
Bye for now!
Love,
Aditya
